VADODARA, May 18: Beginning this academic year, M S University’s Faculty of Law finally plans to introduce certain subjects as per the recommendations of the Bar Council. The Council is the official body which awards recognition to all Law faculties in the country.
The faculty plans to introduce subjects like administrative law and pollution as recommended by the Council. The system of admissions as suggested by the Council will also be followed. According to this, only students having 45 per cent at the graduation level will be eligible for admissions.
It may be recalled that the faculty authorities had attempted to introduce the same changes from the previous academic year, but had to withdraw their decision following students agitations. The faculty then granted admissions to students having less than 45 per cent.
To look into the recommendations of the Council and fill staff vacancies, the university administration has also conducted interviews for lecturers. Till last year, the faculty only had temporary lecturers. As per the Council’s recommendations, the faculty is supposed to have at least three professors, and if one of them is a dean then there are supposed to be four apart from the dean. The faculty at present has three professors including the dean, who was appointed recently.
Speaking about the appointment procedure, Pro vice-chancellor Deepak Kumar De said that the administration was conducting interviews regularly and would be recruiting people as and where there were vacancies. De also added that it was difficult to appoint lecturers as per the Council’s recommendations but nevertheless, the university would see to it that it followed the rules laid down by the Council.
