In a twist to the controversy over the kidnapping of Kanchan Mishra and forcible marriage with Bihar’s most-wanted criminal Sultan Mian, Mishra has told the National Commission for Women (NCW) that the marriage was ‘‘consensual’’. After the deposition, the NCW wrote to Bihar DGP asking him to release her. Kanchan also said she ‘‘loved Mian and wanted to stay with him’’, the Commission said.
NCW chairperson Purnima Advani, however, said she looked ‘‘scared’’. The deposition came within days of Mian’s arrest in Bihar’s Siwan district. Kanchan was arrested to be produced before the NCW after the commission had summoned them to do so.
