Taking a tough stand on terror Congress President Sonia Gandhi has said the country will not hesitate to take stern action against those who carry out such acts.

“Let those who attack India on its soil know that we, the people of India, will show them no mercy. We will not hesitate to take the sternest action against those who carry out such cowardly actions,” Gandhi said, in a signed “Letter to Congresspersons” in the latest issues of party mouthpiece ‘Congress Sandesh’.

With the Congress at the receiving end with the BJP accusing it for being “soft” on terror, she said terrorism is not and can never be a solution to any grievance and only leads to further polarisation of society.

In a hard hitting article, the UPA Chairperson said that the Congress party has always opposed the use of terror whether by terrorists who give Islam a bad name or those, who by attacking India’s minorities give Hinduism a bad name.

“Neither can be tolerated if India is to live upto its reputation as a secular and democratic republic,” she said.

Referring to the Delhi serial blasts last month, Gandhi said when terrorists attack our community centres, they have no respect for religion.

“They attack all citizens of India. It is these citizens of India that the Congress party wants to applaud, our people who have refused to bow down to any terrorist threat,” the Congress President said.
