MUMBAI, MAY 6: Mumbai South East powered into the girls semi-finals of the Maharashtra State Junior Basketball championships at the Fr. Agnel complex today.
A spirited display in defence and a late surge in office saw the girls drub Pune 65-51. Mumbai South-East had rallied from a 14-point deficit to beat Nagpur 60-55 yesterday and with today’s win have come out of a difficult league unscathed.
In Pool B, defending champions Satara also kept their slate clean, notching three victories to top the pool. In the boys league, holders Bombay North advanced to the quarters with their second successive win, over Solapur.
South East started sluggishly, their offence not clicking. But a solid performance in defence, from Sonali D’Souza in particular, helped tem check Pune to a 16-15 lead. Then the South-East offence switched gears. Anita Krishnan followed her 39-point effort yesterday with a 27, guards Ami Momaya and Sushma Holmagi found their rhythm and Pune were conquered.
