Chitralekha editor dies

  • Noted Gujarati novelist and editor-in-chief of the Chitralekha group of publications, Harkisan Mehta, died on Friday following a brief illness. He was 70.
  • Mehta penned 21 novels, many of which were translated into Hindi, Urdu, Tamil, Telugu and Marathi. He joined the Chitralekha group in 1951 and became editor-in-chief in 1972. He also founded a journalism institute at Mithibai college. He is survived by his wife, son and three daughters.

    BMC dy chief engineer retires

  • The deputy chief engineer of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s building proposals department, M N Kelkar, retired on March 31, 1998, after serving the corporation for 34 years. Kelkar, who joined the BMC in 1962, has worked in various capacities in the corporation, and was instrumental in designing the building that houses the Fire Brigade headquarters at Byculla. He also played a role in constructing the marine outfall at Colaba.
  • Ghazal charityconcert

  • Ghazal singer Bhimrao Panchale will be felicitated for completing 25 years of singing at a charity show at Y B Chavan Centre on April 4 at 5 pm. The show has been dedicated to the Lokbiradari project, run by Dr Prakash and Manda Amte for the upliftment of tribals near Hemalkasa village of Ghadchiroli district.

  • Advocate Arun Tripathi from Navi Mumbai has been appointed acting chairperson of the legal cell of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee.
