In a tragic incident, a young couple and their two children sustained burn injuries on Sunday morning at Nehru Nagar. All four are undergoing treatment at Rajawadi hospital.

25-year-old Drupada Salvi, her husband Machchindra, 30, daughter Aamrapali, 5 and one year-old son Vinod sustained burn injuries at around 11.30 am at Shramajivi Nagar, Nehru Nagar. Drupada, with 95 per cent burn injuries and Vinod, with 90 per cent injuries are in a serious condition. Machchindra sustained 40 per cent burn injuries and Aamrapali was fortunate to escape with 10 per cent burn injuries. The accident occurred after an argument broke out between the couple on Sunday morning, the police informed. When an agitated Drupada poured kerosene on herself, Machchindra pushed her over a stove. In the scuffle that followed, all four got burnt.

The Nehru Nagar police have filed a case of attempted murder against Machchindra.

Banatwalla for TADA withdrawal

Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) president, G M Banatwalla, MP on Sunday demanded the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (prevention) Act (TADA), which lapsed on May 23, 1995 be withdrawn immediately. Banatwalla, who has introduced a bill to provide for withdrawal and prevention of all legal proceedings under TADA, said in a statement issued here, that the act had been widely criticised as “violative of all democratic norms.” “There was gross misuse and abuse of the act leading to limitless sufferings of a large number of people,” he alleged.
