The People’s Democratic Party today touched a chord with the people gathered here to listen to Mehbooba Mufti.
The PDP vice-president extracted a roar of approval in this National Conference stronghold when she said the 80,000 people killed in the last 13 years were not terrorists but brothers who died to solve the Kashmir tangle. The 4,000-strong crowd called her ‘‘Duktar-e-Kashmir’’(daughter of Kashmir).
Mehbooba harped on atrocities allegedly committed by the police Special Operations Group (SOG) and security forces, and vowed to disband the SOG if voted to power. She also promised a commission to inquire into rights violations by security forces and SOG, disappearances and custody deaths.
