Nine persons were killed and seven critically injured in a stampede that took place at a religious fair in Kareela, around 40 km from here on Wednesday, sources in the police said.
Around eight to 10 lakh devotees were attending the fair at Janaki temple when people panicked and jumped over a railing causing the stampede. Nine persons were killed on the spot whereas seven injured were rushed to a hospital where their condition was stated to be critical.
