Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia, who co-chairs the Indo-US Economic Dialogue said on Friday that infrastructure bottlenecks were a critical factor blocking international investments from coming to India.
Speaking at a session on the dialogue organised by FICCI he said: ‘‘There is a widespread perception that the most important factor holding back investments is the quality of infrastructure.’’
He said to rectify the situation, the PM’s infrastructure committee will now monitor crucial projects to ensure policy bottlenecks are cleared.
He said the Planning Commission will prepare a paper on regulatory standards to evolve globally benchmarked standards and create and investor-friendly environment.
‘‘The Commission will first work out the general principles that a regulatory framework should meet. In the next stage it will review the status of regulatory systems in sub-sectors such as telecom, power, ports and roads,’’ Ahluwalia said.
