The state Minority Affairs and Madrasa Education (MAME) Department has obtained the much-awaited nod from the state Cabinet to start its temporary recruitment process in the state on Thursday.
To fill up the posts of the department’s offices at district level, which will soon be set up by the government, the Cabinet has decided to recruit retired government employees.
“West Bengal will be the only state in the country which will have district offices of MAME at places where minority communities form 25 per cent of the population,” said Minority Affairs Minister Abdus Sattar.
The recruitment process entails employing for various posts — ranging from district officers who would be running minority affairs, to Group D staff. In all these cases, the cabinet approved a period of engagement that ranges from six months to one year, while engagement on contractual basis will be allowed up to the age of 62 years.
Twelve districts in Bengal are slated to have MAME offices, namely Malda, Murshidabad, South and North Dinajpur, Coochbehar, Nadia, West and East Midnapore, Howrah, Burdwan, Birbhum, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Bankura Purulia and Hooghly.
The offices will be responsible for duties like preparation and maintenance of database of all Central and state government schemes, preparation of minority development plans, education schemes, loan schemes, etc.
