The empowered group of ministers (GoM) today deferred a decision on the appointment of a financial consultant for the privatisation and modernisation of Delhi and Mumbai airports. The estimated cost of modernisation of the two airports is around Rs 4,000 cr.
The GOM, which comprises Finance Minister Jaswant Singh, Disinvestment Minister Arun Shourie, Law Minister Arun Jaitley and Minister of State for Civil Aviation Rajiv Pratap Rudy, had shortlisted ABN-Amro, Ernst and Young and KPMG from among a total of five firms for the purpose.
Rudy disclosed after the hour-long meeting that the three firms had been asked to give presentations before the GOM on November 19 to enable it to have an idea of their qualification for the assignment.
The project being enormous, the crucial consideration for the GOM is the competence of a firm to do the job, rather than the lowest bid. The GOM may decide on the appointment of the consultant the same day.
