CHANDIGARH, April 16: Behavioral problems of mentally retarded children were elaborately discussed on the concluding day of the workshop for parents of mentally retarded children at the Government Institute of Mentally Retarded Children, Sector 32.
While problems like foot stamping, temper tantrums and running away are common, the solutions need to be individualised. One needs to associate these problems with the cause and effect and not with the IQ level. Parents often enhance these problems by their inconsistence behavioral management.
It was also emphasised that mentally retarded children can be trained in different ares like gardening, candle making and so on.
Fire in wheat field
Loss worth several thousand rupees was estimated when a fire reportedly broke out in a wheat field at Bhagwanpur village, near Barwala today. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Owner of the field, Gurdev Singh has lodged an FIR with the Barwala police station.
