Chennai, Jan 8: `Hard work, fitness and mental strength were the reasons for my success” said a joyous Mekhala Subedar after capturing her maiden crown which had proved elusive for the past three years as she fell flat at the final hurdle. However, on Thursday, Mekhala Subedar, coached by her father put her disappointments behind to notch up a facile victory over Sohini Kumari 9-2, 9-1, 9-0 in the India Cements-MCC Senior National Squash Championship at the MCC courts.
Two promising youngsters Ritwik Bhattacharya and Akil Behl battled it out for a place in the final. Ritwik, who upset the calculations of Dhiraj yesterday got off to a flying start gaining a 6-3 lead. Behl came back strongly to take a 7-6 lead. But Ritwik’s powerful shots enable him to take a one game lead.
