
MUMBAI, FEB 19: Mumbai under-19 lad Sushant Manjrekar came with a gigantic contribution to fetch Elf Lubricants the KC Mahindra Invitational Shield at the Elf-Vengsarkar Academy ground, Oval Maidan this afternoon.
The 18-year-old Manjrekar’s knock of 100 (93b, 12×4, 2×6) and his 93-run unbroken association for the sixth wicket with Ojas Mehta (34) formed the basis of Elf’s five-wicket triumph over Sun-Grace Mafatlal. Elf overhauled Sun-Grace’s score of 262 in the 63rd over.
A contest was in the offing when Elf, resuming at their overnight score of 59-0 were reduced to 172-5 at one stage. However, southpaw Manjrekar and Mehta steadied the ship to underline their growing stature in the local circuit.
Elf led by international Jatin Paranjape were richer by Rs 25,000 while Sun-Grace had to be content with Rs 10,000.
Robin Morris, who struck a quickfire century yesterday claimed the man of the final ward worth Rs 3000. Manjrekar and Sun-Grace left-arm medium-pacer Zahir Khan were adjudged best batsman andbowler of the tournament and received Rs 2500 each. Umpire Kakodkar was adjudged the best official of the event.
