MUMBAI, April 21: Stung by his defeat by a single vote in mayoral elections to the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation, Congress Corporator Hardas Makhija is planning to move the High Court. “I have been wrongfully denied the mayorship despite having won by a vote,” he said.

Makhija said he had spoken to his lawyers and added that the “papers are being readied.” He said he was confident of making a strong case. “The Returning Officer’s statement which was rejected by the mayor, and the disputed vote, will prove that I am right,” he said. Video cassette with Dighe: The video cassettes with the footage of the election, including the clashes between opposition and ruling members, are now in the possession of Thane District Sena Chief Anand Dighe.

Speaking to Express Newsline Dilip Lalwani, the correspondent for In Sindhu cable network which covered the election live, said: “When Yashaswini Naik adjourned the House for 15 minutes, Kumar Ailani and Dighe asked me to stop the live coverage which Irefused as the telecast had already begun. Dighe then asked me to hand over the cassettes to him after the telecast.” Ailani confirmed that the cassettes have been taken to Dighe.
