Sri Lankan Army chief Sarath Fonseka is set to visit India on a six-day tour from Sunday to boost bilateral military ties as the ethnic conflict in the island state intensified after the abrogation of the ceasefire pact by the government earlier this year.

“We cannot provide any details. The army commander Sarath Fonseka is visiting India for six days,” top defence sources told PTI.

Sources said there would be a detailed interaction with the Indian Army, while refusing to give details due to security considerations.

Fonseka is expected to place a wreath at World War I memorial at India Gate after which he will be presented a guard of honour at the Defence Ministry headquarters at South Block.

Sri Lanka has been increasingly looking at China and Pakistan for weapons supply in the wake of India’s reluctance to provide sophisticated arms to the island nation.
