Four days after the Nandigram massacre, a landmine blast at the Tata project site at Singur early on Sunday morning kicked off fresh spell of tension in the area. No injuries were reported in the blast, nor much damage was caused.
The police, however, are not taking the incident lightly. They have already started investigations to ascertain whether Naxalites were behind the blast. The blast happened at around 3.15 am, damaging a portion of the boundary wall of the project site of Tata’s proposed automobile factory. The local police station was immediately intimated and a police team reached the site in no time.
State police’s bomb disposal squad reached the spot at around 10.30 am and defused six more landmines planted on the wall. “We also recovered a plastic bomb from the spot,” said Superintendent of Police, Hoogly district, Supratim Sarkar.
The sqaud defused the mines in a nearby ground and submitted a report to the police, said police sources.
