The top scorer of last year’s World Cup is leaving Werder one year before the end of his contract. “Bayern fulfilled our expectations and we approved the transfer under those conditions,” Werder’s general manager Klaus Allofs said Tuesday.
A statement by Werder said Bayern had made a “vastly improved” offer Monday for the Polish-born striker. Werder gave no figures, but the Bild newspaper said Bayern was paying a transfer fee of euro15 million (US$20.19 million).
