MUMBAI, JULY 13: A six-year-old girl spent a night of terror next to her mother’s dead body after the mother was murdered last night in her Juhu apartment.
Police said Meena Nagda (35), a resident of Villa Kutir Apartment, JVPD scheme, had separated from her husband Harish sometime ago and lived alone with her daughter Janu. Meena used to manufacture embroidered garments at her home. She had employed a servant called Rajesh only on Monday, police said.
At around 9 pm on Monday, Meena was in her room doing embroidery work when the doorbell rang. Her servant opened the door and allowed a young man in. The youth had a brief talk with Meena and then suddenly rushed into the kitchen, brought out a knife and slit Meena’s throat with it, said assistant police inspector R P Chaudhari of Juhu police station.
Hearing the commotion, Janu, who was in another room, came out to see what was happening but could not notice anything in the darkness, police said. However, she was terrified when she heard a manthreatening her saying “Andar Ja Nahin To Mar Dalega (Go in or else I will kill you).” After some time the youth and the servant left the house and the girl was left alone with her mother’s dead body, police said. The frightened girl did not come out of the house all night and dared to leave the place only in the morning, Chaudhari said. Though she came out crying, no one in the building paid any attention to her. Finally, when she came on to the road, a bystander noticed her and took her to the police station.
Police then found Meena’s body and registered a case of murder and robbery. Cash worth Rs 22,400 and some ornaments are reported missing from the house. Police have launched a manhunt for Rajesh and the unidentified youth.
Investigations are on under the supervision of inspector (crime) Vasantrao Jadhav and senior inspector Ramesh Sirnaik.
