State government will ask Mysore University to initiate necessary action against its History Professor K.S. Shivanna for the malpractice he committed in the evaluation of Karnataka Administrative Services (KAS) examination answer scripts.
‘‘We will use our powers under the Karnataka State Universities Act to request the Mysore University to take steps in view of the prima facie evidence available against the Professor,’’ the Higher Education Minister, Dr G. Parameshwar, said on Monday.
The government will also ascertain the facts from the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC). The Education Department, the Minister said, will immediately intervene so as to prevent Shivanna from doing any more damage to students. Dr Parameshwar indicated the possibility of stripping Shivanna of examination-related duties as an interim measure.
However, the BJP came down heavily on the state government for allowing IAS officer and Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner A.K. Monappa, Food and Civil Supplies Deputy Director K. Rameswarappa and Shivanna to continue in service despite proof of their committing grave malpractices in the KAS examinations. They demanded Shivanna’s suspension.
