NEW DELHI/AYODHYA, NOV 11: The Babri Masjid Movement Coordination Committee (BMMCC) today expressed concern over outgoing Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh’s statement asserting that a Ram mandir would be built at the disputed site in Ayodhya soon, and demanded that the Atal Behari Vajpayee Government expedite the judicial process in the case.

The BMMCC expressed its worries even as the President of the Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas, Paramhans Ram Chandra Das, on Thursday praised the role of Kalyan as chief minister in the temple movement, though adding that it would be premature to comment on his successor, Ram Prakash Gupta. However, he didn’t seem unduly concerned over Kalyan’s removal as chief minister, telling UNI in Ayodhya that sadhus and sants have nothing to do with politics and they would support anybody who would cooperate in the construction of a Ram temple at Ayodhya.

In its statement in New Delhi, BMMCC convenor and former MP Syed Shahabuddin said: “The BMMCC has noted with apprehension the public statements made by Kalyan Singh reiterating his resolve to construct the proposed Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir on the site of the Babri Masjid soon, which implies that he is not prepared to wait for the final judicial verdict.”

Demanding that the judicial process be expedited at the special bench of the Allahabad High Court, the BMMCC asked the Government to commit itself to maintaining the status quo and to abide by the final judicial verdict.

“While many leaders and cadres of the BJP may be in secret and silent sympathy with him (Kalyan), the BMMCC calls upon other political parties which had denounced demolition of the Babri Masjid and some of whom now form part of the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) to take note of the fulminations of a disappointed but desperate member of the Sangh Parivar,” the statement further said.
