When Rumaisa Rahman was born at Loyola University Medical Center in September, she weighed less than a can of soda and fit into the palm of her father’s hand. A mere 244 grams, she was believed to be the world’s smallest surviving premature baby. Now, Rumasia now weighs 1.18 kg, doctors said on Tuesday. Her original due date was Christmas Day.
Her twin sister Hiba, who weighed 563 grams at birth and now 2.25 kg, , could be released by the end of this month. Rumaisa may follow as early as the first week of January. Their parents, Mahajabeen Shaik and Mohammed Abdul Rahman are originally from Hyderabad. —Agencies
