Wardha, May 4: Maharashtra Chief Minister Manohar Joshi today visited the family of farmers who committed suicide after the failure of the kharif and rabi crop, and handed them the promised compensation of Rs1 lakh.
His first visit was to the family of Vithal Kamble, who ended his life in a fit of depression when his crop failed due to unseasonal rains and hailstorms. Joshi, who was accompanied by Minister of State Anil Deshmukh, said the state would take up the responsibility of educating Kamble’s children. He also announced an insurance policy of Rs 3000 for the family.
Joshi also visited Ajabrao Thakre’s family.
Later, he visited Kinhivalni village and lent an ear to the problems faced by the villagers. He promised that water shortage and lack of proper roads would be attended to soon. Joshi was accompanied by MLA Manikrao Thakre, MLA Mangutiwar and Sena district chief Vinod Mohitkar.
