Union Minister for Human Resource Development Murli Manohar Joshi, who was in Vadodara today, said the CBI, which is investigating the IIM paper leak, would look into Saturday’s leak of CBSE pre-medical test papers and report on ways to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
The Minister also mooted online exams and a joint policy for all competitive exams as a solution to check malpractices.
Addressing a press conference after he arrived in the city to campaign for the BJP, Joshi said: ‘‘It is good that the leak was detected before the exam was held. The CBSE been instructed to announce re-exam dates soon. It is important for the credibility of such tests that these leakages do not recur. When we come back to power, we will work on a joint policy for entrance exams. The option of holding online exams, too, would be explored, which would remove all possibilities of such recurrences.’’
Joshi said he has found during his campaign that there is a lot of support for Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee, while the Congress is in an inert state. On the achievements of his ministry during his tenure, Joshi said it is the first time since Independence that illiteracy had come down by three crore in absolute terms.
Taking a dig at the Congress, Joshi said it is a party with no plans, policies and direction and hence is being neglected by the masses. Asked why the BJP’s vision document began with a quote of Congress leader Manmohan Singh, Joshi said that Singh was a sensible man and was, in fact, welcome to the BJP.
On the IIM fee cut issue, Joshi repeated his stand that they are institutions under his ministry and that autonomy does not mean manmaani.
