Job creation, infrastructure expansion, medical aid and water and power supply are the thrust areas in the massive Marad development package of which a draft was prepared today. The draft, evolved at a meeting of senior officers of various government departments convened by Principal Secretary (General Administration) K.K. Vijayakumar, will be finalised after getting approval from the Cabinet.
Vijayakumar told mediapersons proposals in the package will be implemented by the end of December. ‘‘Financial control will not affect the implementation of these projects,’’ he said. The package, once implemented, will change the face of the trouble-torn coastal village.
Water supply and electrification has been identified as the most important areas. An amount of Rs 28 lakh has already been sanctioned for the purpose. The Naduvattom scheme will be augmented to meet the shortage of drinking water. More water tanks will be installed and deepening of wells will be undertaken as part of the project. Maximum number of water taps will be installed to avoid arguments over collecting potable water.
Works on giving electricity connection to houses has already begun. The entire stretch of the beach and the by-lanes will be lit up. All four approach roads to Marad will be well-maintained to make access to the beach easier. Efforts are on to identify the location for a police station in Marad.
