LUDHIANA, Aug 9: Janata Dal activists today staged a rally at the Clock Tower here to launch the week-long mass awareness campaign all over the state.
Speaking on the occasion, JD state convenor Harish Khanna lambasted the Centre and the state government, charging them with pursuing policies which fuelled inflation and resulted in the unprecedented hike in prices of essential commodities.
Charging the SAD-BJP combine with misgovernance, Khanna said the condition of the rural population was no better and many small farmers caught in the debt-trap had committed suicide. The number of unemployed in the state had gone up to seven lakh, he added.
