MUMBAI, Dec 2: “First it was Javagal Srinath (injured mid-way through last season), and when he was fit, we lost the services of Harbhajan Singh (to the bowling action controversy) and now Ajit. It is very frustrating,” said Anshuman Gaekwad, the coach of the Indian team. Gaekwad called it a “blow to the team’s aspirations.”
“We have to go back and replan our strategy,” said Gaekwad, while adding that it was unlikely Agarkar would join the team later. “I would have definitely likened him to be in New Zealand but it is more important that he gets sufficient rest and regains full fitness,” he added.
“He bowled to three batsmen at the training session on Monday and was resting when I asked him how he felt. He said he felt pain in his left leg after which team doctor Ravinder Chadha advised him to have it examined by an expert,” he said.
Delhi medium-pacer Robin Singh Jr would replace Agarkar, according to Sharad Diwadkar, executive secretary, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
