NEW DELHI, March 17: After cricket and hockey, the traditional sport of wrestling looks set to be added to the bilateral sporting exchanges between India and Pakistan.
Indian officials will hold discussions with their Pakistan counterparts on starting a `Test’ series between the two countries during the Qaid-e-Azam international freestyle championship to be held in Karachi from March 20 to 22.
A 13-member Indian team will participate in the tournament where wrestlers from many Gulf states are also expected to take part, Jasram Singh, manager of the squad and Delhi Wrestling Association secretary said.
Possibilities of starting bilateral Test series will be explored during the tournament, he said.
India has been regularly participating in the event. Performance in the nationals has been the basis of selection of the squad, he added.
The squad: (54 kg) Rakesh Kumar, (58 kg) Rajkumar, (63 kg) Talukdar Yadav, (69 kg) Rajesh, (76 kg) Sujit Mann, (85 kg) Rajbir, (97 kg) Samsher, (plus 97 kg) Bhagat.
