To promote people-to-people contact as part of the bilateral peace process, India and Pakistan on Thursday agreed to look at increasing the frequency of the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service even as New Delhi proposed new routes connecting the divided Punjab and Kashmir.
‘‘Because of the success of the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service, we are now looking at increasing its frequency,’’ said Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran after meeting his Pakistani counterpart Riaz Mohammad Khan here. He, however, did not give any details. India, Saran said, has proposed the introduction of bus services between Lahore and Sarhind in Ludhiana, and between Kargil and Skardu in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
The two sides also discussed a proposal for a new bus service between Poonch and Rawalkot in PoK, he said. Saran added that India’s proposal for a Kargil-Skardu bus service was aimed at meeting demands of the people of the area. — PTI
