SURAT, Aug 17: More than 1000 people of different organisations took part in a march, called `A tribute to Independence’, to mark the completion of 50 years of India’s independence on Saturday. The rally was jointly organised by The Indian Express and the South Gujarat Productivity Council.

People raised patriotic slogans during the six-km-stretch march, which commenced from Gandhi Baug near Chowk and concluded at the Parle Point area.

A number of school children and noted freedom fighters including Saruben Vyas, Sumanbhai Trivedi, Piyushbhai Trivedi, Champakbhai Dudhwala and Natwarbhai Soni also accompanied the marchers.
