BPL cell phones in Ahmednagar
Ahmednagar: BPL Mobile will extend the cellular phone service to this city beginning from Tuesday next. Registration for mobile phone seekers has already began at Swati Communications and Sanman Communications, the authorised BPL dealers. The company would cover the Pune-Ahmednagar highway for its cellular service within a month after the launch, it was stated.
Neuro surgery centre
Ahmednagar: Sai Shalaka, a well-equipped neuro-surgery centre, at the Super Specialty Hospital will be inaugurated by Datta Maharaj Shahapurkar on Thursday. The centre set up by well-known neuro surgeon from Mumbai, Bharat Naik, who has settled in Ahmednagar would facilitate the patients from the region.
Threat letters
Ahmednagar: Special Inspector General of Police Tukaram Wamkhede has ordered the handing over of the investigations of the threat letters to residents of Chande village to the local crime branch. The police are groping in dark about the threats of dacoities and murders. They were unable to get any clues from a shop-keeper of the village who was taken into custody in relation to the threats. The villagers have been pressing for a police chowki.
Ration card system flayed
Kolhapur: About 10,000 citizens, especially women, marched to the district collectorate here on Monday demanding cancellation of the three-tier ration card system based on income groups. They were also demanding that the poverty line be defined as income below Rs 25,000, earmarking of adequate food grain, edible oil and pulses stock to fair price shops, availability of other essential commodities through fair price shops and five litre kerosene to LP gas holders.
