For the Information and Broadcasting Ministry the interim-budget from Finance Minister Jaswant Singh came as a bounty as the budget support went up by nearly Rs 300 crore from last year-to touch Rs 955 crore this year. Last year, the budget support for the ministry stood at Rs 647.50 crore.Observing that bulk of the money would go in improving content on the autonomous Prasar Bharati Corporation’s Doordarshan operations and for the Direct to Home services, the corporation intends to launch by March-end. This also covers expenditure of the Directorate of Advertising and Publicity which plans and executes publicity campaigns undertaken by the Government through advertising and other printed material as well radio, TV and other media. The North- East too will get Rs 98.98 crore as its share out of this outlay .
