Six days after the Delhi serial blasts, someone who knew 22-year-old Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Lone spotted him at the Ramban bus stand. This time, Lone was minus his beard. This one detail made that person suspicious and he alerted the J&K police.
Lone, arrested at Makkarkot in Ramban on November 3, was already wanted for alleged links with a district commander of Hizbul, Abdul Hamid, who was gunned down by security forces at in Banihal on October 21.
Lone surprised everyone with a ready admission of his involvement in the Paharganj blast. The sequence so far—it’s still to be verified—is something like this: Lashkar-e-Toiba’s Batmaloo-based commander Bahadur Jan contacted Abdul Hamid to find a person familiar with New Delhi, someone not under survelliance. Hamid’s men Sher Khan and Billu Gujjar contacted Lone, a truck cleaner without a job. Hamid introduced Lone to Bahadur Jan who gave him a letter and Rs 3,000, asking him to reach Delhi on Oct 29.
