Border tipped to become Aussie coach

BRISBANE: Former Australian cricket captain Allan Border will be named as Australia’s interim national coach but remains undecided if he wants the job permanently, Australian Associated Press (AAP) reported.

Border will guide the Australians through a three-week tour of Zimbabwe next month after World Cup-winning coach Geoff Marsh steps down following the current tour of Sri Lanka, AAP said.

Australia win

COLOMBO: Australia beat Sri Lanka’s Board XI by four wickets on the fourth and final day of their tour match in Colombo on Monday.Brief scores: Board XI 228 and 271 lost to Australia 179 and 321-6 (G Blewett 148).

Heyns record

JOHANNESBURG: Penny Heyns overcame high altitude, cold water and what she called “pathetic turns” to break the women’s 100 metres breaststroke short-course world record on Sunday.

Heyns clocked one minute 5.57 seconds on the final day of the South African short-course championships to better the mark of 1:05.70set by Samantha Riley of Australia in December 1995.

It is the ninth world record the South African has set in the past six weeks but her first in a short-course (25-metre) pool.
