Pakistani team provided special police guards:
JOHANNESBURG: A special South African police protection unit was put in place today to beef up security for the visiting Pakistani cricket team after two key bowlers were mugged and injured outside a hotel here.
National crime prevention spokesman senior superintendent Louis Dafel said police would handle the Pakistani squad’s security arrangements for the remainder of their stay in South Africa.
The two teams got together for a dinner tonight believed to be an unprecedented move on the eve of a test match to discuss ways of fighting crime both in South Africa and abroad. Police escorted the team to practise today afternoon at the nets at the Wanderers.
“Obviously we are not guarding the hotels where they are staying but as soon as they move out to the cricket ground, or at night we escorting them,” Dafel said.

Gullit’s $ 3.3 million demand grounded:
LONDON: Ruud Gullit admitted today he had asked for a $ 3.3 million salary, but he said that wasn’t the reason he was fired as Chelsea’s manager.
But the club said that was exactly why it fired the Dutchman and replaced him with Italian Gianluca Vialli, a player Gullit brought to Chelsea and then angered by seldom playing.
In fact, Chelsea said Gullit would have cost the club more than $ 5 million even too much for a coach who led Chelsea to the F A Cup last season its first major trophy in 26 years.
Answering Gullit’s assertion, Chelsea’s managing director Colin Hutchinson saidGullit was asking for 3.3 million dollar after taxes. That meant Gullit would have cost Chelsea 5.5 million dollar in salary.Such as salary would have made Gullit the best paid coach in England, surpassing Manchester United’s Alex Ferguson.
