KARACHI, AUGUST 19: Three members of the Pakistani cricket team face an inquiry for reportedly inviting girls into their hotel rooms before the squad left for Singapore last week, an official said Saturday.

A prominent daily, The News, reported on Friday that the three players, who were not named, invited girls into their hotel rooms in Lahore while the team was there for practice ahead of their departure for Singapore. The report said the girls were “followed by some shady characters” who demanded money from the cricketers to hush up the matter, which was paid in dollars.

“After the incident the three were clearly shaken and did not report for the final session of training,” the paper said. On the advice of coach Javed Miandad it was decided to conduct an inquiry after the team’s return from Singapore, it said.

Yawar said he had been told Miandad had already reported the incident to the PCB, adding that he would discuss it with the cricket board’s chairman Lieutenant General Tauqir Zia on Sunday.

Pakistan will play their first match in the three-Nation tournament at Singapore against New Zealand on Sunday. South Africa is the other team in the tournament.
