Bengal skipper Deep Dasgupta is delighted that former India skipper Sopurav Ganguly will be playing the Ranji Trophy final.

“He is our inspiration,” said Dasgupta after having a three-hour practice session at the Wankhede Stadium.

Dasgupta said he was amazed with the way the ‘Bengal Tiger’ made his comeback to the Indian team. He said, “No one gave Sourav a chance a few months ago. But just look at the way he has come back into the Indian team.”

“It was really inspiring to see him so determined to do well when playing first class cricket.

The way he went about his game was fantastic. He used to practice with the team and if required, he used to be at the ground for a separate practice session later on,” the Bengal wicket-keeper batsman added.

Was he afraid of playing a team boasting of a clutch of international stars? “In fact, it’s good to have international players playing in the final. What more one can ask for? Both teams will go with their best players and it’s good for cricket,” he states.

According to Dasgupta, the reason behind Bengal’s success in the last two seasons was the consistency the team showed. “Rohan Gavaskar has been a big support.

He has so much experience and has played a big part in our success. The core of the team has been together for a while and the youngsters are also contributing.”
