
PATIALA, Aug 22: The district police today claimed to have busted a gang of car lifters after arresting three members of the gang and recovering a stolen vehicle from their possession.
According to police sources, on August 19, three persons hired a taxi, PB 10 E-8200, for Ghagga from near Sewa Singh Thikriwala’s statue after paying Rs 3,000 for it. On reaching village Shahur, about 7 km from Ghagga, the three persons started beating up Harnam Singh, the driver of the car and after threatening him with a knife, fled with the car. On the complaint of the driver, a case under Sections 382/34 IPC and 25 Arms Act was registered.
The police quickly launched a hunt to locate the stolen car.It was during a special checking operation near village Butasinghwala today that the police party, on seeing a car without a number, stopped it. Questioning of the occupants revealed that it was the car that had been stolen on August 19.
The car lifters, Charan Singh, Sanjay Kumar and Karan Singh, all belonging to Haryana, were arrested. They confessed to their crime during the interrogation.
