CALCUTTA, FEB 11: Even as the Shiv Sena had called off its agitation against Pakistani cricketers, the Cricket Association of Bengal has received a letter, purportedly from the Sena, warning the CAB against holding the inaugural match of the Asian Test Championship here from February 16 to 20.

State Home (police) Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee told newsmen here today that the computerised letter, reached the CAB a few days ago and police investigations were on. “We have taken the matter very seriously,” he said.

While the State Government had made all arrangements to hold the matches as per schedule, he expressed hope that spectators expected at the matches would also resist any attempt to disrupt them.

Asked whether he would discuss the matter with Union Home Minister L K Advani who was instrumental in making the Shiv Sena call off its agitation against the Indo-Pak matches, Bhattacharjee said, “Why should we discuss with him? We will investigate on our own.”

In a statement, Chief Minister Jyoti Basu appealed to the people to maintain peace during the matches.
