Flags will fly at half mast across Pakistan on Wednesday, but not for Sept. 11 victims — rather to commemorate the anniversary of the death of its founder, Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

Jinnah died of tuberculosis 54 years ago, only one year after his dream of a separate state for South Asian Muslims was realised with the creation of Pakistan in 1947.

The government has no plans to mark the first anniversary of the hijacking attacks on New York and Washington.

But it ‘‘has planned to commemorate the 54th death anniversary of the Father of the Nation … In a fitting manner,’’ State-run Associated Press of Pakistan announced.

A government spokesman said there were no ceremonies planned to commemorate last year’s terror attacks in the US.
