Pakistan intends to establish peaceful relations with India but Kashmir will remain the ‘‘central bone of contention’’ until Kashmiris get ‘‘self-determination,’’ Pakistani premier Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has said.
The Arabic daily Okaz quoted Jamali as saying that he was optimistic the ongoing negotiations between his country and India will help resolve problems between the two nations.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has written to the UN general Assembly and Security Council to urge New Delhi to start a dialogue and agree for a ceasefire on the LoC. In the letters, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UN Munir Akram said: ‘‘So far, there is no talk about talks, no roadmap and no signpost for moving towards a genuine process for peace and security in South Asia.’’
