
NEW DELHI, AUG 8: The International Hockey Federation (FIH) will honour the world’s best male and female hockey players through the newly-instituted FIH International Player of the Year awards, according to information reaching here.
The FIH, on the recommendation of its Media and Public Relations Committee, is establishing the annual award to honour hockey’s top athletes, and also, to draw attention to their achievements from the broader sports community. The first of these awards will be presented in October in Alexandria, Egypt, during the FIH’s 75th anniversary celebrations. Specially commissioned trophies, depicting a male and a female hockey player in action, are currently being designed. Calls for nominations have gone to all FIH National Associations, with the deadline for replies being August 31.
