.

A survey conducted by the National Sample Survey Organisation has showed that employment in the organised sector has gone down from 2.77 crore in 2001 to 2.70 crore in 2003. In Lok Sabha, Labour Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said the survey conducted in 1999-2000 found the unemployment rate on current daily status basis had gone up from approximately 6.03 per cent in 1993-94 to 7.32 per cent in 1999-2000. He said as the employment in the organised sector constituted only 7 pc of the total employment in the country, a marginal decline in it ‘‘may not have a significant impact on the overall employment rate’’.
