This is Robin Hood with a twist — they didn’t set out to rob the rich but were content with government money. And they weren’t seen doling it to the poor.

Six armed youth, claiming to be the ‘‘educated unemployed’’, looted about Rs 3 crore from a State Bank of Indore branch today. And they walked away with their loot through a busy market, minutes after the bank had just opened this morning.

Eyewitnesses said the youths entered the branch on Raipur’s Grand Eastern at 10.15 am. Soon they took out their revolvers and asked the cashier to hand over the keys or take them to the strong room.

‘‘We will not loot private money, or harm customers. Don’t make any noise and sit quiet till we collect the cash — the government money — and leave,’’ declared one of the robbers. Soon they forced the cashier to open the strong room, filled small plastic bags and walked away.

Police admit they have no clue about how the robbers got away. ‘‘All we can say is that we are making efforts to nab the culprits. There were serious security lapses on the part of the bank, which made it a soft target,’’ DGP O.P. Rathore said.

According to police, the robbers had come well-prepared and did not take much time to execute their plan. ‘‘An aged customer was slapped by one of them,’’ said Raipur SSP Ashok Juneja.
