The match-winning double century knock in Adelaide helped Rahul Dravid climb to second place in the latest Pricewaterhouse-Coopers (PWC) Test ratings. West Indies’ Brian Lara regained the top batting spot from Australian Matthew Hayden but India’s batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar slipped out of the top-ten for the first time since 1993, a PWC release said here.
Dravid hit a career-best 233 and an unbeaten 72 to steer India to a stunning victory over world champions Australia in the second Test in Adelaide this week. It was Dravid’s fourth career double ton and the highest individual score by an Indian abroad, bettering Sunil Gavaskar’s 221 against England at The Oval in 1979.
Lara hit his first century against South Africa in the first Test at Johannesburg, which the hosts went on to win by 189 runs. VVS Laxman, who shared a 303-run partnership with Dravid in Adelaide, jumped five positions to be ranked 11th.
