The number of bidders for the Delhi and Mumbai airports are now down to eight with construction major DLF pulling out of its partnership with Malaysian Airport Holdings Berhad and teaming up with the Bharti-Changi consortium.
This was announced on Friday by the Bharti-Changi consortium, which said DLF’s experience in ‘‘building high quality real estate and infrastructure projects will go a long way in ensuring that India gets the very best’’.
The statement said given the ‘‘proven capabilities’’ of its members, the consortium would be ‘‘able to deliver world-class airports in India in a time-bound manner’’.
Though the Bharti group is better known in the telecommunications business, its partnership with Changi which manages the Singapore airport has allowed it bring the necessary expertise to modernise airports.
The selected bidder would form two JV firms with the AAI for the two airports. At present, the parties are examining the RFP document that outlines the parameters for each bidder to present their proposal.
