Iran has testfired new powerful anti-ship missile capable to hit targets at the range of 300 kilometres, Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Mohammad Ali Jaafari said on Monday.
Iran has tested new weapons which will spare no enemy ship as it can sink within the range of 300 kilometres from the Iranian borders, he said.
This is absolutely new technology; it had developed with homegrown technology so far unused by any other country, Jaafari said.
The IRGC Air Force and Navy held large-scale exercises in July and test launchings of different missiles that also included Shahab-3 which has a range of more than 2,000 kilometres. The missiles are also capable to hit targets at US military bases in the Middle East and also on the territory of Israel. The tests were held amidst more emphatic statements by Iranian representatives addressed to the West and escalation of tension on the Iranian nuclear programme.
Earlier in summer the Iranian military had repeatedly warned that Teheran might limit navigation in the Persian Gulf in the event of hypothetical aggression against Iran and threats to its interests and security.
