JAIPUR, Oct 3: A satta racket based on this week’s India-Pakistan cricket series, running into crores of rupees, has been unearthed by the Jaipur police. The international links of the racket which, according to sources, spread from here to Mumbai, Chandigarh, Calcutta and even Dubai, are being probed.
In the raid on the satta operators’ premises under the Kotwali police station area today, four people were arrested, though the main accused managed to escape.
The police reportedly received information about the gambling over the cricket matches late Thursday night.
The bookies apparently settled local bets in cash while the outstation ones were conducted on telephones connected to tape recorders.
The cash transactions on the bets were to be carried out today.
About Rs 40,000, several computer floppies, audio and video cassettes, tape recorders, a TV, a VCR, telephones and ledgers were seized from the place located in Ganesh Towers, situated on a road called Jhananio ka Rasta, during the raid.
Those arrested have been identified by the police as Suresh Gupta, Mafatbhai Patel, Ram Babu Khandelwal and Krishna Kumar.
This, incidentally, was the second major satta racket busted in the city. In July, the police had unearthed a similar large-scale racket, which was being run by a family known to be in this profession. Their operations, however, were limited to single-digit lotteries.
