CHANDIGARH, July 31: The Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association will conduct selection trials on August 5 at Sector 10 Tennis Stadium here. According to CLTA chairman Rajan Kashyap, the selected men and women will represent Chandigarh in the V National Games to be held in Imphal from October 4 to 14.

Only Chandigarh domicile or who are otherwise eligible to participate from Chandigarh as student or employee, can take part part in the trials which begin at 8 a.m.

Chandigarh men and women have qualified for the team championships. The selected men and women would attend coaching camps as planned by the Chandigarh Olympic Association and Chandigarh Sports Department.

Meanwhile, Joint Director, Sports Department JPS Sidhu said here today that selection committees have been formed to select the Chandigarh contingent for training and participation.

Synthetic track
For conducting national and international meets, an eight-lane athletic synthetic track would be laid at the Motilal Nehru School of Sports, Rai (Haryana), with an estimated cost of Rs 2.75 crore.

This was decided at today’s meeting of the school’s Special Board, with Haryana Governor Mahabir Prasad in the chair. The state Sports Minister ram Saroop Rama and the Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma were also present in the meeting.

It was also decided that horse riding be made compulsory for students, especially in the senior classes. It was decided to procure quality horses from the army or police establishments. The Governor assured the school of all possible help.
