MUMBAI, MARCH 25: Dhirubhai Ambani, chairman of the Reliance group, who was conferred with the `Entrepreneur of the 20th century award’ at a FICCI function to welcome Bill Clinton later had an exclusive meeting lasting 40 minutes with the US President. Ambani and his two sons, Mukesh and Anil, met the US President in Hotel Oberoi after the latter addressed business captains at the Bombay Stock Exchange on Friday evening.
The Ambanis informed the US president about the Jamnagar refinery, upcoming Reliance projects and prospects for the Indian economy. Earlier, Mukesh Ambani and his wife Nita had met the US president at the year-end party at the White House.
Earlier US Commerce Secretary William Daley presented the award to Dhirubhai Ambani. Clinton also personally congratulated Ambani.
Said Ficci President G P Goenka: “Ambani played a major role in creating India’s capital markets. He is a true visionary who built world class assets.” P R Kumaramangalam, Minister of Power, and Pramod Mahajan, Minister of Information Technology, also congratulated Ambani and praised his organising abilities.
Accepting the Award, Ambani said: “This is an award for the entire Reliance family. It is an award for millions of shareholders who have put their trust in me. It’s a honour for thousands of men and women who have worked hard to make Reliance what it is today.”
